Its planet is Venus, and tradition pairs it with focus, charisma, and steadiness under pressure. It is often worn on the right arm in older prescriptions, the arm of action.

Who wears the 6 Mukhi

No one is excluded from Rudraksha: men, women, and children of any background may wear it. Traditional affinity is a pointer, never a gate. If this is your first bead and the 6 Mukhi does not feel settled in your hand, the 5 Mukhi is the tradition's universal answer and always will be.

How to wear the 6 Mukhi — practical rules, not superstition

The tradition asks for cleanliness and steadiness rather than ceremony. String the bead on natural thread — silk, cotton, or wool — or in silver or gold if you prefer metal. Wear it against the skin if that suits you; wear it over clothing if it does not.

• Remove it, or tuck it away, when it would simply be at risk — heavy work, sport, anything that could crack the shell.
• Keep it away from soap, shampoo, and chemical cleaners; they dry the surface and strip the natural oil.
• Oil it occasionally with mustard or almond oil, and let it dry in shade, not sun.
• Rudraksha darkens with wear. That patina is age, not damage — a bead that never changes was probably never a seed.

Beyond that, the rules you may have read about — the days you must not wear it, the foods you must avoid — vary so widely between households and regions that presenting any one version as "the" rule would be dishonest. Follow your own family's practice where you have one.

The mantra for the 6 Mukhi

The mantra that belongs to every Rudraksha, of every count, is the Panchakshara: ॐ नमः शिवाय — oṁ namaḥ śivāya. It needs no initiation and no permission, and it is what the overwhelming majority of wearers use.

You will also find per-bead beej (seed) mantras printed in books and on websites, each assigning a particular syllable to the 6 Mukhi. We do not reproduce those lists, for a reason worth stating plainly: the versions disagree with one another, the attributions are rarely traceable to a source anyone can check, and printing a syllable we cannot stand behind would be exactly the kind of confident invention this trade is already full of. If a beej mantra matters to your practice, take it from your own teacher or family tradition rather than from a shop.

Rashi and graha suitability

A Rudraksha is a dried seed on a thread. There is no documented physiological effect of wearing one, and therefore nothing we would describe as a side effect. Anyone who tells you a bead will harm you if you wear it on the wrong day, or heal you if you wear it on the right one, is selling something.

What can genuinely happen is ordinary: a nickel-sensitive wearer reacting to a metal cap rather than the bead, a tight thread irritating the skin, or a cracked bead scratching. Those are fixed with a different thread, a longer strand, or a better bead. How to check a 6 Mukhi Rudraksha is original

Start with the count itself: a genuine 6 Mukhi carries 6 continuous grooves running unbroken from one pole of the bead to the other — natural valleys the surface grain flows around, not cuts that interrupt it. Count at both ends, because the poles are where a faked line struggles most to converge cleanly.

The one trick this tier genuinely sees — our identification guide names it — is a common 5 Mukhi given extra carved lines to pass as a 6, 7, or 8. The tells are consistent: a natural line is a valley the surface grain flows around, while a carved one cuts across the grain and hesitates near the poles, where every genuine line must converge. Count at both ends, and remember the interior cannot lie: 6 lines must mean 6 chambers.

The decisive test needs no folklore: under X-ray a real bead shows 6 internal seed chambers, because the internal count always equals the external one — while a carved bead shows a solid core with decoration cut into the shell. The famous water test proves nothing either way; how a seed sinks depends on its age and oiling, not its honesty.
