What is scripture here, and what is practice

This is the paragraph most rashi-bead pages leave out, so it goes first. The Shiva Purana’s account of Rudraksha and the Rudraksha Jabala Upanishad describe the mukhis and the deities who preside over them — one face for Shiva, five for Kalagni Rudra, seven for Mahalakshmi, fourteen for the Devmani. That is tradition, and it is old. That Mesha is ruled by Mangal and Makara by Shani is plain jyotish, uncontested by any school.

The step that joins those two — a Moon sign to a face count — is neither. It is the working method of practising astrologers: take the sign’s ruling graha, take the bead the tradition places under that graha, recommend it. Sound reasoning, followed for generations, and still not a verse anyone can cite. Any site presenting a rashi-to-mukhi table as scripture is presenting something that does not exist, and you deserve to know which part of a recommendation rests on text and which rests on practice before you spend money on it.

We follow the method anyway, and we would tell you to. But we follow it with the label on it.

The three traditional doors — a chart is only one

Choosing by rashi is one way in. Choosing by intention is another and just as traditional: you decide what you are actually asking for — steadiness, courage, clarity of speech, the easing of a burden — and take the bead the tradition associates with it. The third is the oldest of all: ask someone who handles beads every day what they would put in your hand.

A remedial reading belongs to a jyotishi with your entire chart, not to a shop that knows one of your twelve houses. We will tell you which bead the tradition associates with your rashi, and we will sell you a real one. We will not pretend to read your chart from a single sign, and we will not tell you that a bead will change an outcome — the tradition hands down association, not guarantees.

And the sentence that matters most if you take nothing else: no Rudraksha is held to be harmful, and no one is excluded from any bead. Rashi suitability is a pointer, never a gate. A seller who tells you the wrong mukhi will hurt you is selling fear, and the five-faced is held suitable for every person alive.

Wearing and caring for a rashi rudraksha

Nothing about the wearing rules changes with your rashi — worth stating, because a great deal of what circulates online implies otherwise. String the bead on natural thread (silk, cotton or wool) or set it in silver or gold. Wear it against the skin if that suits you, over clothing if it does not. Men, women and children of any background may wear Rudraksha; no initiation and nobody’s permission is required.

• ·Take it off for heavy work, sport, or anything that could crack the shell.
• ·Keep it away from soap, shampoo and chemical cleaners — they dry the surface and strip the natural oil.
• ·Oil it occasionally with mustard or almond oil and let it dry in shade, never in direct sun.
• ·Expect it to darken. That patina is age, not damage — a bead that never changes colour was probably never a seed.

The mantra is the same for every count and every sign: ॐ नमः शिवाय — oṁ namaḥ śivāya — the Panchakshara, which needs no initiation. Per-bead beej mantras circulate widely and contradict one another between sources, so we do not print a syllable we cannot attribute; take that from your own teacher or family tradition. The rules about particular days and particular foods vary so much between households and regions that presenting any one version as the rule would be dishonest. Follow your family’s practice where you have one.
