In the jyotish way of choosing, your birth details give your rashi — your Vedic Moon sign — and each rashi has a ruling graha with Rudraksha counts traditionally associated with it. How do I find my rashi?
Your rashi is where the Moon stood at your birth, so it needs a date, ideally a time, and the birthplace time zone. This page calculates the Moon's sidereal position from those details in your own browser and names the rashi — nothing is sent to us or stored anywhere.
Is rashi the same as my zodiac sign?
Usually not. The Western sun sign follows the Sun in the tropical zodiac; rashi follows the Moon in the sidereal zodiac, which differs by roughly twenty-four degrees. It is common to be Leo in one system and a different rashi in the other. This page shows both so you can see the difference.
Which Rudraksha is for my rashi?
The traditional mapping runs through the ruling planet: Mars rashis to the 3 Mukhi, Venus to the 6 or 13, Mercury to the 4, Moon to the 2, Sun to the 12, Jupiter to the 5, Saturn to the 7 or 14. Enter your birth date above and the page shows yours, with the reasoning.
Do I need my exact birth time?
Not always. The Moon crosses about half a sign in a day, so many birth dates give one rashi regardless of the hour. Leave the time blank and this page checks the whole day, then tells you plainly whether the answer is certain or whether the Moon changed sign while you were being born.
Can I wear Rudraksha without knowing my rashi?
Yes. Choosing by chart is only one of three traditional doors — the others are choosing by intention and simply asking someone who handles beads daily. The 5 Mukhi is held suitable for everyone without initiation or condition, which is why most wearers begin there.
What is my nakshatra, and does it change the bead?
A nakshatra is a finer division of the same sky — twenty-seven of them, each thirteen degrees twenty minutes wide — and this page names yours with its pada. Bead choice by nakshatra is prescribed from a full chart rather than from birth date alone, so we name it for interest and point you to a jyotishi for more.
Should I consult an astrologer before wearing Rudraksha?
If you want a bead chosen from your full chart, yes — a jyotishi reads far more than a Moon sign. But the tradition has never made astrology a requirement for wearing Rudraksha, and we will never tell you a reading is compulsory before you may buy a bead from us.
How this is calculated
Rashi is not a lookup table — it is astronomy. This page computes the Moon’s apparent position for your birth moment from standard lunar theory, subtracts the Lahiri ayanamsa used by Indian ephemerides, and reads the sidereal longitude: thirty degrees to a rashi, thirteen degrees twenty minutes to a nakshatra. Where the result is close to a boundary, or where a missing birth time leaves it genuinely open, this page says so instead of choosing for you.
