Import VAT, honestly explained
Since July 2021 the EU has charged import VAT on goods of any value arriving from outside the union — the old small-parcel exemption is gone. Your courier or postal service collects it before delivery, at your own country’s rate, and rates differ enough between member states that any seller quoting you one number for “Europe” is guessing. We declare every shipment truthfully as finished seed-bead handicraft and never understate a value to reduce someone’s VAT: that is fraud, it puts your parcel at risk, and we will not do it.

Standard VAT rates as published for 2026; your carrier states the exact figure. Three of these are not EU member states and are listed because their treatment differs and gets guessed at: Monaco sits inside the EU customs and VAT territory through its union with France and so takes the French rate; Liechtenstein shares Switzerland's customs and VAT territory and takes the Swiss one; Andorra and San Marino run their own. One consequence worth knowing before the parcel arrives rather than after: at every destination outside a pre-collection scheme, the carrier adds its own clearance fee for handling the customs entry, on top of the tax. Norway's customs authority says so in as many words. That fee is the carrier's, set by them, and no part of it reaches us — but it is real money at your door and we would rather name it here. One thing said plainly: we are not registered for the EU’s IOSS scheme, so we never pre-collect VAT at checkout — whatever the parcel’s value, the courier collects your country’s rate at the door, against our truthful declaration. Delivery across Europe — Berlin to Lisbon
Parcels travel tracked from Kathmandu to Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, Zurich, Lisbon, Oslo, Budapest — and every deliverable address between them — typically within our standard 3–12 day worldwide window, with customs handling occasionally adding a day or two at your end. The tracking number is shared the day the parcel leaves, and your exact postcode is confirmed on WhatsApp before you pay. We publish no per-city day counts, deliberately: we will not invent precision our shipping records do not support, and any seller who promises “4 days to Munich” from the Himalaya is guessing with your patience.
Why order from Nepal when Europe has shops?
An honest question deserving an honest answer. Most European countries — Hungary, Portugal and Norway among them — have domestic sellers, and they hold real advantages: delivery in days rather than weeks, your own language, and no customs moment at all. If speed is the whole question, buy locally with our blessing — after putting the seller to the four tests any honest shop passes.
What waiting buys you is the thing no reseller can add afterwards: provenance. Our beads come off the sorting tables of the harvest itself, in the hills around Dingla in eastern Nepal — and every claim is proven per piece, with photographs, video, and X-ray on request, before a euro moves. You pay the source price rather than the third markup, and the parcel travels with a declaration we would sign in front of your customs officer. Days versus proof: that is the real trade, stated plainly.
Country notes — what changes at your border
The parcel is the same from Kathmandu to any of these addresses — tracked, 3 to 12 days, declared truthfully as finished seed-bead handicraft. What differs is the rate your courier collects and the shops you are weighing us against. Every country below has domestic sellers in its own language; search in German, French, Dutch or Spanish and you will find them, as we did. This page is for the buyer who wants the bead from the source, with the proof to go with it.
Germany, Austria, Switzerland & Liechtenstein
Germany collects 19% import VAT and Austria 20%, both at the door via the courier. Switzerland is outside the EU: its 8.1% VAT and its own customs handling apply, and a Swiss parcel does not clear through Germany. Liechtenstein shares that customs and VAT territory with Switzerland, so a parcel to Vaduz takes the Swiss rate and the Swiss route, not the EU one — which is why it is listed apart from its EU neighbours. German-language shops selling Nepal-made malas are well established; what none of them can show you is the photograph and X-ray of your exact bead before you pay, which is the whole of our argument. France
Import VAT of 20%, collected by the carrier, and a French customs declaration we complete honestly — never a lowered value to shave the bill. French shops carry these malas alongside Tibetan and Buddhist pieces, often without stating which country a strand came from. Ours states it: the hills around Dingla, and the grower, by name.
Netherlands & Belgium
Both collect 21% import VAT at delivery. Dutch webshops list them under gebedsketting and mala, frequently mixed Nepali, Indian and Indonesian beads in one range, which is a fair way to sell jewellery and a poor way to sell provenance. If the origin of the seed is the point, ask any seller — including us — which country and which harvest.
Spain, Portugal & Italy
Spain 21%, Italy 22%, Portugal 23%, collected by the courier before the parcel is released. Spanish shops describe Nepal-made japa malas of 108 beads; the count is easy to verify and we show it laid flat. Delivery to Iberia and Italy sits inside the same 3–12 day window as the rest of Europe — we will not quote a shorter one we cannot stand behind.
Nordics & Poland
Denmark, Sweden and Norway collect 25%, Finland 25.5%, Poland 23%. Norway is outside the EU and handles its own customs. These are the highest VAT rates on the continent, which makes an honest customs value matter more, not less: an understated declaration that is caught costs you the parcel, and we will not put yours at risk to save a few euros of someone else’s tax.
Ireland, Greece & Czechia
Ireland 23%, Greece 24%, Czechia 21%. Ireland is the one EU country where English is the market language, and Irish buyers will find the same offer as the UK page describes, without the post-Brexit complications. The rest of the mechanics are identical: courier collects, we declare truthfully, tracking is shared the day the parcel leaves.

Do I pay VAT on rudraksha shipped to the EU?
Yes — since July 2021 the EU charges import VAT on goods of any value from outside the union, collected by the courier or postal service before delivery at your country’s rate. How long does delivery from Nepal to Europe take?

Which currency will I see?
Prices are on request for now; we quote in euros — or in pounds for the UK, which has its own page. The figure is confirmed in writing before payment.
Do you ship to Germany, France, and the Netherlands?
Yes — to every EU member state, plus Switzerland and Norway, by tracked courier. Non-EU European countries have their own import rules, which we confirm with you before you order.
Is rudraksha legal to import into the EU?
They are dried seeds sold as finished religious handicraft, routinely imported and worn across Europe. We declare shipments truthfully; if your country applies any plant-material rule to seed handicraft, the courier will advise at customs.
